Edible Gardens

Planning, Planting & Maintenance

Let’s meet in your garden or dream garden.

The first step in achieving a successful garden is to start with a plan. We’ll talk through your goals for your space and help you create the plan to get there. The next step is to bring the plan to life by sourcing and planting your seeds, seedlings, shrubs and trees. Finally, we can help you maintain your gardens, either on a schedule or specific need basis.

Let’s make it happen.

  • New-Client Consultation

LET’S SPEND TIME TOGETHER IN YOUR SPACE.

In our consultation, we’ll discuss your space and growing goals. I’ll advise you on your current setup, soil, and structures, including advice on trellising for vertical growing to maximize your space. We’ll discuss the growing and planting seasons here in Southern Delaware and hone in on what and how much you want to grow. I’ll answer any of your questions and as a follow up, deliver notes from our meeting and next steps.

Our consultation fee for this service is $225.

  • Planting Plan Package

    A WELL-PLANNED GARDEN BECOMES A BOUNTIFUL ONE

We’ll start by designing a custom planting plan for your garden space. After we help you hone in on the vegetables, fruits, herbs, shrubs, trees or flowers that you want to grow, we design a garden layout. This is an illustrated map of what goes where in your garden - demonstrating proper placement and spacing for each plant. You’ll see how very much you can fit into your beds using vertical growing, succession planting, and our high-intensity approach.

We will also deliver our edible planting calendar - an indispensable tool with seeding and transplanting windows for each crop in our Mid-Atlantic 7b growing region. You’ll know which plants to buy and sow as seeds, and which to shop for as starter plants from your local nursery. We will outline when to get plants in the ground and how long each edible crop takes to mature.

This fee varies with the size of your garden and starts at $185.

  • Plant Sourcing

HIRE US TO SHOP FOR YOUR SEEDS & STARTER PLANTS.

Leave it to us. Using the planting plan that we have designed for you, we’ll thoughtfully source your seeds and starter plants from local growers.

If you’ve flipped through the (many) vegetable seed catalogs and have a specific varietal that you’re interested in growing, we can help you or grow it for you!

We charge a fee of $120 plus the cost of the plants for this service.

  • Planting Days

HIRE US TO PLANT YOUR GARDEN FOR YOU

Book planting sessions and be confident that everything is in its right place. Purchase of Planting Plan is required. It will be our roadmap.

Native Planting: We like to plant before it’s too warm in the spring or in the fall. If you have an irrigated area and we can find the correct plants, we can help you plant whenever you’re ready.

Edible Garden Timing: Count on two spring planting sessions for spring & summer crops. In March, we plant our cool-season crops that benefit from as many cool days as we can give them. In late April or early May, we plant our warm-season crops; this is when threats of nighttime frost has passed.

Don’t forget about fall harvests! Book a late-August, early-September session for our second round of cool-season growing!

Planting sessions are $75/hour. Depending on the size and scope of your garden, each planting session is between 1-4 hours.

  • Coaching & Maintenance

LET US TEND & HARVEST FOR (OR WITH) YOU

On a regular basis, we will come to tend your garden and harvest what’s ready. Your garden stays in tip-top shape and we get to know your space really well. This means we can anticipate your unique needs and best help you get the most of the growing season.

Services include pruning, tying, trellising, organic pest and disease control, and best-practice techniques for harvesting what’s ready. We’ll set your garden up for the week to come and present a harvest basket. This service is like having your own CSA in your back yard.

We recommend weekly or bi-weekly sessions from June through September for new gardeners. For more experienced gardeners, a monthly visit may be a good choice. Let’s chat to see what makes most sense for your garden.

If you’re interested in maintenance for pollinator gardens or native perennials, our services include pruning, deadheading, weeding, tying and trellising.

Coaching and maintenance is billed at $75/hour. Sessions run 1-2 hours depending on the size and scope of your garden.
