Suburban Kitchen Garden.

This client has a keen enthusiasm for exploring innovative spaces for food cultivation while also cherishing the aesthetic value of food-producing plants. Making use of every snug corner in the client's backyard, we strategically placed plants to ensure a plentiful harvest of vegetables. A fence was constructed to ward off rabbits, while strategically placed arches support the growth of tomatoes, peas, beans, and squash, effectively maximizing the available growing space.

Horseradish grows well in Delaware and has these amazing beautiful leaves.
The dainty flowers of the horseradish plant contrast it's large dark green leaves.

We love to experiment in our gardens. Here we grew wheat as a cover crop and to see how much we could actually get.
Artichoke can be potted or put in the ground to come back each year here in Southern Delaware. We use it as a "screening" plant at times.
If you don't love the artichoke for eating, you'll still love it for it's beauty. The globes open up to a purple flower that the bees and butterflies love.
The berries on asparagus start out green on the ferns and then turn red for beautiful fall color in the garden.
We love to add a splash of color to our beds using annuals and perennials.
Brambles and vines love our climate in Southern Delaware. Here we grow blackberries in a sunny spot in the backyard.
A little surprise teepee for beans to climb sits among pollinator flowers for the bees and butterflies.
Rhubarb comes back every year and is so simple to grow. Its simplicity ends there as the plant itself has beautiful leaves and stalks.
There are many figs that are heirloom and grow throughout Delmarva. We love how you can eat both the fruit itself and use it's leaves in cooking.
Companion planting is our favorite way to garden. The Three Sisters is a technique that native Americans used, planting beans to climb corn and squash at the base to cover the ground.

Nasturtiums add beautiful pops of color throughout a garden and are a wonderful companion for cucumbers, beans, peas. I let them run wild in our personal garden.
Soybeans don't need to be grown only by the large farms around us here in Southern Delaware. All beans (and peas) are great to add to the garden as they are constantly providing food but also fixing nitrogen back into the soil.
